Tiger - Pencil Drawing by Names76 Tiger - Pencil Drawing by Names76
WELL. This took longer than I thought it would.

This was my first time doing a realism portrait of an animal, and I'm pretty satisfied with it.

Thing is though I still wasn't able to give it my 100%... I was making this as a Christmas gift for my mother, and well, Christmas is only 4 days away and I work 3 of them ._. So today was pretty much my last day to work on it and I felt pretty rushed to finish it. All in all I'm still very happy with it and I'm sure my mother will be too.

Looks great - did you use a white pencil for the whiskers?  If so which brand is the best

I didn't, actually. The whiskers and other white lines are done by either drawing around the white, or using an eraser =].

OK thanks,  I drew a lioness and found it very difficult to add the whiskers, so I used a white paint pen.  I guess that may be considered cheating in graphite drawings or is that considered acceptable?  I tried using a pencil eraser but found it difficult to get clean thin lines.

Realism Portrait Tips/Tutorial *BIG FILE*

I made a tutorial here that outlines the specific tools and erasers I use, and specifically how I make my white lines.

Nothing is "cheating" when making art in my opinion. It's all just art at the end of the day =].

Thanks for the advice - your tutorial is very helpful - I will need to get the Tuff stuff eraser to try.

HOLY SH*T!!! °O° And this is your FIRST time drawing realistic animals you say?! OH. MY. GOD. I am completely amazed by this work, and I'm sure your mother will be too, truly happy for her gift and truly proud of her son :)
So, now that you've done one, would you say that you enjoy drawing animals? 'Cause we surely would enjoy to see more, if you feel like it ;)
Really, this drawing left me speechless, it has quickly become one of my favorite from you (or probably MISTER favorite), I like to take a look at the details like all the little pencil strokes above the nose, and the fur, you must have put a lot of patience into it, my biggest and most sincere compliments, you achieved a great result! Happy to have you in my watch list, it's always a pleasure when I see one of your works pop-up in the notifications :)

Thank you so much, you're way too kind lol.

To be completely honest, while it was fun to draw an animal for the first time, it also felt extremely tedious. When I draw a person I get to draw eyes, skin, clothing/armor, hair etc. But with an animal like this, it's just... eyes for a few minutes and HAIR. The excitement of trying something new wore off quite quickly with how tedious it was to draw nothing but hair xD. I might do another one or two in the future, but I wouldn't expect to see many unfortunately =/. I agree that it's one of my better ones though. It just goes to show stepping out of your comfort zone and doing something new can have great results =].

Thanks again for the kind words ^_^
